Introduction

ekko is a platform that helps banks, PSPs, orchestrators and consumer-facing brands add sustainability to their payment journeys. The ekko Climate API lets you show consumers the environmental footprint of their purchases and give them a way to take action through verified climate and nature projects.

What the API does

The ekko Climate API is flexible. Depending on your product and your consumers’ needs, you can:

  • Show consumers the carbon and nature footprint of their transactions
  • Let consumers purchase carbon credits or make contributions to verified environmental projects
  • Target carbon credits closer to where your consumers are located
  • Retrieve impact partner details, project locations and environmental themes for display in your product
  • Track and report on positive project impact with auditable records
  • Handle sales tax breakdowns for jurisdictions that require consumer-facing displays

To learn what the carbon and nature footprints measure, see Footprinting. For how contributions and credits direct funds to projects, see Key concepts.

How to integrate

There are several ways to integrate with ekko:

  • Checkout SDK: a pre-built experience you can add directly to your checkout flow, with support for round-ups and fixed-value contributions
  • Post-purchase SDKs: hosted sustainability journeys that run after checkout
  • Direct API integration: full control for in-app or custom checkout experiences, sustainability incentives, round-ups for impact or monthly footprint reporting

For detailed guides on each path, see Integration paths.

If you're a bank, you integrate through the direct API. See Integrating as a bank.
